Bytes to Kilobytes conversion

UnitResult
Note: Above conversion to KB is base 10 decimal unit. If you want to use base 2 (binary unit) use Bytes to Kibibytes (B to KiB) (which results to 0.0009765625 KiB). See the difference between decimal (Metric) and binary prefixes

How to convert Bytes to Kilobytes

1 Byte (B) is equal to 1×10^-3 Kilobytes (KB). Conversely, 1 Kilobyte (KB) is equal to 1×10^3 Bytes (B). The prefix Kilo refers to decimal(base 10) metric prefix. Sometimes, people use binary(base 2) definitions. Technically, in binary, it should be Kibibyte (KiB) which is 1024 or 2^10. In binary (base 2) definition, 1 Byte (B) is equal to 9.765625×10^-4 Kibibyte (KB). Please see the table below for all the conversions from a Byte.

See below section for step by step unit conversion with formulas and explanations. Please refer to the table below for a list of all the Kilobytes to other unit conversions.

What is a Byte?

Byte is used to measure unit of digital information. In general, byte is equivalent to 8 bits in computers. the symbol for byte is BB (capital b) as Specified in IEC, IEEE and Metric Interchange Format.

What is a Kilobyte?

Kilobyte, KBKB, is a unit of digital information. Kilo is used as a unit prefix in metrics system. It represent a numerical value 10310^3 or 1,0001,000. List of SI prefix can be found on Wikipidia.

There are two common ways unit of information is represented. One is in decimal (base 10) form and the other is in power of 2 (binary). KilobyteKilobyte is referring to the base 10 format, unlike KibibyteKibibyte which is referring to base 2 format.
